Merit Pages

Merit LogoMcKendree University uses Merit to publicize undergraduate student and faculty achievements over social media, in hometown newspapers and online. Students receive recognition when they are named to an academic honor society, make the President’s or Dean’s List, earn an award, study abroad, or volunteer on a mission trip, for example. Merit creates a personal online profile for each student, which can be used for internship or employment referrals.

Scholarship BadgeHow does Merit work?

Faculty or staff members notify the Director of Media Relations of an exceptional achievement or news (and if applicable, a list of those who have earned the accomplishment). The director then writes a brief article and awards a “badge,” which is published on the Merit profile. In some cases, the information is sent to one’s hometown newspaper as a news release. Why is it important?

• Merit creates a positive, institution-verified online identity—a visual resume that showcases a student’s achievements from enrollment through graduation.

One’s online reputation matters. Many companies now research applicants online. Merit gives McKendree students a professional looking web profile to which people who make decisions about internships, graduate school and jobs may refer.

• Merit makes it easy to share good news with family and friends over email or social media networks like Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.
