McKendree’s Bearcat Pantry Now Accepting Donations Online
(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 30, 2024) – McKendree University’s Bearcat Pantry is now accepting donations online. If you are interested in donating toward the pantry, please use this link for their Amazon wishlist. All donations will be shipped to McKendree University and will go directly to the Bearcat Pantry.
The pantry is seeking items such as pull-top canned goods, microwaveable items, stews, chilis, soups, beans, crackers, pastas, cereal, dried fruits, rice, applesauce, pudding cups and peanut butter. The pantry also provides items that are strictly vegan and vegetarian-based, which are properly labeled and stored accordingly. They also accept donations of feminine hygiene products, laundry pods, dishwasher pods, toiletries, body wipes, toilet paper, soap bars, sanitizing wipes, and toothbrushes. The pantry asks for donations that are single servings, non-glass, and not expired.
The pantry also accepts monetary donations, including cash, checks, and money orders. Please contact the Bearcat Pantry or The Reverend Beverly Wilkes-Null regarding monetary donations.
“We live on the goodness of our donations,” said Rev. Wilkes-Null, “We appreciate everyone who donates to the pantry!”
Located on the first floor of Bothwell Chapel, the Bearcat Pantry is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. Students are allowed to enter the pantry twice a week and are eligible to take up to three food items. The pantry also offers access to meals via their Swipe Out Hunger partnership with Sodexo, which can be used in Ames Dining Hall.
“The pantry has a good standing for all students, including international students or even the ones who have nowhere to go,” said Rev. Wilkes-Null. “They tend to stay on campus during holidays or breaks and since our dining facilities are closed during that time, our students really depend on the pantry to provide food for them. On shutdown times, we do not limit our students. We tell them to take what they need during these times.”
