'McKendree Idea Lab' Seeks Speakers for 2017 Event
Educate, Inform and Entertain in a 12-16 Minute Talk
(LEBANON, Ill., March 22, 2016) - Can you educate, entertain or inspire an audience
in 16 minutes or less? McKendree University seeks lively, engaging speakers on a variety
of subjects for a new “McKendree Idea Lab” event next year.
Modeled after the popular TED Talks (on technology, entertainment and design), it
will feature five informative and performative talks in one 90-minute event to be
held onstage at the university’s Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on March 7, 2017.
“With the Idea Lab, we are trying to create an environment where information, creativity
and performance combine to deliver a fresh and compelling evening of talks,” said
Peter Palermo, director of the Hettenhausen Center. “Anyone who can present a thought
provoking and exciting talk is encouraged to submit their idea.”
Each presentation must be 12 to 16 minutes in length. Topics should be appropriate
for any age and background and of interest to a general audience. A committee will
review the submissions and select five speakers. Each will receive a $1,000 stipend
to cover expenses. The Idea Lab will be technology friendly so speakers are encouraged
to incorporate displays, media and other visual elements into their talks.
Proposals will be accepted until September 1. To apply, include your name, phone number,
email, past presentation experience, title of your talk, a one or two-sentence summary
of the topic, a brief description with a bulleted outline of 5 to 10 topics to be
covered, and a one to two-minute video showcasing your ability as a presenter. For
more information or to submit a proposal, contact Peter Palermo, McKendree University,
701 College Rd., Lebanon, IL 62254, [email protected].
