McKendree Holds Inaugural Lifelong Learning Exploration Day on Campus

(LEBANON, Ill.) – McKendree University recently held their first-ever Lifelong Learning Exploration Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5, which was designed to empower students to make their mark in their future careers, their communities, and the world.

The soggy autumnal day couldn’t dampen Bearcats’ spirits. Throughout the day, several panels and sessions were held by faculty members, staff members, and alumni, who shared their expertise on topics such as resume strategies, social media strategies for one’s career, what students can do with their degrees, avoiding burnout, networking, mentorship, and how to be positive and productive.

The event concluded with a keynote panel comprised of four alumni who shared their success stories: Reginald Duncan ’12, Nicholas Powell, ’03, Lindsay Hansard ’15, and Derek Sallee ’13, MBA ’16.

This initiative was inspired by McKendree President Daniel C. Dobbins, who highlighted the importance of a relevant and impactful education during his inauguration in 2020.

The committee members in charge of putting together this event include the following:
Dr. Melissa Meeker, chair of Worldwide Programs
Dr. Katie Alford, assistant professor of education
Dr. Nichole DeWall, professor of English and director of the Honors Program
Dr. Amanda Downard, director of the Paraprofessional+ Program
Michele Erschen, managing director of marketing and communications
