K-12 Arts Education Matinees Are Coming to the Hett in Early 2019

(LEBANON, Ill., January 8, 2019) — From whimsical frogs to a study of Frankenstein, professional touring companies will offer a variety of programs for K-12 students of all ages at McKendree University’s Hettenhausen Center for the Arts in early 2019. The Hett’s Arts Education Series presents matinees at a reduced price, geared toward younger audiences.

School matinee tickets are $5 per child. For every 10 children, a chaperone receives one free ticket to the performance. The shows are as follows:

Wednesday, Jan. 30, 10 a.m.: Imago Theatre presents “FROGZ.” When the curtain opens on Imago Theatre, what happens next is magical as lizards, frogs, penguins and more are brought to life by skilled performers. Part illusion, part puppetry, part comedy, “FROGZ” is a delight for all. Recommended for grades K-5.

Tuesday, Feb. 12, 10 a.m.: Aquila Theatre presents “Frankenstein.” The classically trained, modernly hip theatre company returns to the Hett with Mary Shelley’s tale of science run amok. Aquila’s educational performance guides students through the play’s key scenes. Recommended for grades 6-12.

Wednesday, Feb. 27, 10 a.m.: Third Coast Percussion. A fun, interactive presentation for all ages introduces the building blocks of music. The Grammy-winning, virtuoso percussionists intersperse their performance with teaching moments that explain elements of music such as rhythm, melody and timbre. Recommended for all grades.

The morning matinees for younger audiences are in addition to the “McKendree Presents” performances at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for all shows are available from noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Hett box office.
