#GivingTuesday on Nov. 28 Promotes Philanthropy via Social Media
McKendree University Sets One-Day Goal of 800 Donors
(LEBANON, Ill., November 15, 2017) - McKendree University hopes to receive 800 or
more gifts in a 24-hour period on Giving Tuesday, a global day of philanthropy on Nov. 28.
Giving Tuesday channels the generous spirit of the holiday season to inspire end-of-year
charitable giving, explained Tony Viviano, coordinator of annual giving at McKendree.
In the way that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are synonymous with shopping, Giving
Tuesday is dedicated to philanthropy, using social media to create awareness. Last
year, 746 donors came together to contribute over $58,000 to McKendree University
on #GivingTuesday.
“We hope to build on the success of previous #GivingTuesday efforts,” said Victoria
Dowling, senior vice president at McKendree University. “We encourage our alumni,
students, parents, friends and others in the McKendree University community to come
together to give back.”
Gifts made on #GivingTuesday will be directed to the university’s annual fund. The
annual fund supports, in part, student scholarships and financial aid, student services,
academic instruction and areas of greatest need. Donations can be made online, by
phone or via email. Follow #McKForward on Twitter or visit mckendree.edu/givingtuesday
to make a donation, interact with others, or share your story.
