'Totally Awesome! McKendree Rocks the 80’s' Parade on Oct. 25

Participate in Homecoming Weekend; New Parade Route

(LEBANON, Ill., September 29, 2014) — Join the crowd of McKendree University students, parents, alumni and Lebanon residents lining the streets near campus to watch the homecoming parade, “Totally Awesome, McKendree Rocks the ‘80’s” on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. Student organizations, homecoming royalty, alumni awardees, marching bands, local groups and businesses will show their spirit, ’80s-style, on floats, cars, trucks, horses and on foot.

“We want you to come out and join us! Last year we had over 40 student, departmental and business entries in the parade and we are looking to expand beyond that this year,” said Craig Robertson, director of campus activities. “We invite you to not only join our parade also our weekend festivities, including pre-game tailgating and the football game.” The Bearcats football team kicks off against Missouri S&T at 1 p.m. at Leemon Field.

Due to ongoing road construction on Alton Street, the parade route has changed this year. Lineup will start at the corner of Alton and Summerfield Streets and continue along Alton north to the St. Joseph’s Church parking lot. The parade will go west on Summerfield St. to Stanton St., south to College Rd., east to Alton St., south onto St. Louis St., east to Monroe and north to Summerfield St. From there it will proceed back to Alton St., turn right and conclude where it began.

Parade entry forms are due by Monday, Oct. 19 in the Campus Activities Board Office, located on campus in The Lair.
